So I found some easy tutorials about how to make digital scrapbook pages here, invested a little time learning, and went for it. At this point in time I have so little time that the pages are pretty basic, but it is easy to add a little color in the background or change up the text. I figure that they'll just be glad they have a book. I used the print shop Persnickety Prints as recommended by the author of the blog. Several months ago when I started Anna's book I signed up for their email updates and just got the notice yesterday about their semi-annual sale. Anna's book was nearly done so today I finished it and sent it off. I'm so excited to see how it all turns out. The pages are not cheap, but are good archival quality prints, and if you subtract out the cost of scrapbooking supplies, it is probably close. The other cool thing they are offering is print credits that can be bought now at the sale price and used for a later purchase.
The pages are easy to make in Picasa. Mine are pretty basic but you can add scrapbooking paper and other decorative things if you want. The pages are created in Picasa using the collage button (you select the pictures you want on each page). Arrange the photos how you like, and then add borders or a colored background or text. Here a few pages from Anna's book:
Goodness, where has the time gone? It has been so fun to look back over these photos and reminisce. I know it's not really family history work in the true sense but I do feel an increase in love for my children when I work on their scrapbooks.
