Costume: Sacagawea

I am a couple projects into my sewing list for 2014, but only one is finished.  That is what deadlines do for you.

Anna chose Sacagawea for her Great American project in her third grade class.  This meant a report, a costume, and a "wax museum" (still pose exhibit) for parents.  She was so excited about the costume that she bugged me for weeks ahead of time about it.  I think she was worried we'd have time to make it.  As it turned out, we almost didn't: I finally gave in and kept her home from school for a day to get it done.  It was the only way I could figure out how to do it WITH her - she really wanted to help!

We love how it turned out.  We made a small bag that she can tie around her waist or wear across her body.  She designed a little pouch to put inside, for - you know- nature treasures or snacks that explorers might need a place for.

After it was finished she spent the rest of the day in it.  Those kind of projects are always worth it. (Thank goodness for neighbors who happen to have the perfect moccasins in the just the right size!)

Looking out for the next trail . . .

I got to the "wax museum" early.  She told me later she got tired after I went through and changed her pose to sitting on the ground for the rest of the museum.

Pattern: McCalls 2851
Size: 8
Fabric: Suedecloth? costume fabric from JoAnn

Thanks Anna for a super fun day.  :)
